How does the Davis Method Work?

Davis Mental Skills Training
The program attends to the root cause of the learning challenges, by giving the person three mental strategies or 'Tools'.  These self-management strategies allow the individual to create accurate perception, manage stress and regulate energy levels.

Dealing with the difficulties
The program then addresses the learning goals of the individual, which may be related to reading, writing, letter confusions, spelling, listening, comprehension, co-ordination or focus.

A visual, meaning-based, hands-on approach is used.  It is called Davis Symbol Mastery® and uses clay, enabling the individual to use their natural strengths and talents to learn.

Clay is used to:
  • Work through confusions with alphabet symbols.
  • Master punctuation symbols.
  • Master the tricky ‘basic’ words – called Trigger Words. These are the words that have no picture attached to their meaning.  The individual creates the meaning out of clay, as well as what the word looks like and sounds like.  This allows the dyslexic individual to read, write and use these words without causing confusion.

Davis Reading Exercises
The individual is taught three steps to easier reading, using a visual-based reading approach.  These reading exercises ensure certainty and full and complete comprehension.
